The Girl Who Drank The Moon

[Spoiler Alert]      Kelly Barnhill's children and young adult novel The Girl Who Drank The Moon.  Is a strong coming of age story about Luna,  a young girl left out in the woods as an infant. Luna is taken in by a Witch who accidentally feed her magic, as a result Luna is en-magicked. Throughout the novel the theme of sorrow is repeated over and over. Xan, the witch in the story constantly repeats to herself and others that sorrow is dangerous, stay away from sorrow. As it turns out Xan too was discovered in the words as an infant and brought to a castle of magicians who en-magicked her. As a young girl she is taught the message that sorrow is dangerous. I think this idea of sorrow in the book plays on the idea that sorrow can drown you into a world of hopelessness where you give up and don't seek to fix what's been done or what's happening.  Dear Kelly,     I have been reading your splendid book The Girl Who Drank the Moon. I find it so fascinating that despite the age of Xan and Glerk these characters I feel can really connect with young mothers. There is so much to be learned from the beauty of these character. It is a story that asks to look inward for what is love, and all things beautiful. I really do believe that this story could be like a beacon of light for many young mothers in todays world.  My name is Lane Oberg, I am a young animator and feel inspired to create a short pilot to push this story being brought to a new audience through the power of visual story telling. Such a story should be told in full color. My plan for the animated plot is to focus on some key points in the first half of the novel. I say we kick it off with Xan discovering Luna lying in the woods. This will keep the mystery of whether or not the which is god or evil in the start. Next I will include some carefully stylized...
