For Kelly Barnhill
Dear Kelly,
I have been reading your splendid book The Girl Who Drank the Moon. I find it so fascinating that despite the age of Xan and Glerk these characters I feel can really connect with young mothers. There is so much to be learned from the beauty of these character. It is a story that asks to look inward for what is love, and all things beautiful. I really do believe that this story could be like a beacon of light for many young mothers in todays world.
My name is Lane Oberg, I am a young animator and feel inspired to create a short pilot to push this story being brought to a new audience through the power of visual story telling. Such a story should be told in full color. My plan for the animated plot is to focus on some key points in the first half of the novel. I say we kick it off with Xan discovering Luna lying in the woods. This will keep the mystery of whether or not the which is god or evil in the start. Next I will include some carefully stylized scenes of Xan feeding Luna starlight. This will be followed by sort of climatic scene of Luna being fed moonlight, I really want to capture the dust and nebula Xan sees in the eyes of luna. Animals and babies have these similar characteristics in there eyes, they carry so much emotion and I felt you really did such a good job in these chapters of describing the beauty of life found in Luna's eyes. Now back to the animation. Where I'm currently struggling is how I would like to end this pilot. My goal is to raise as much interest, while giving away as little information as possible. Perhaps a scene of Glerk sort of sneaking up behind them, this could be a really great cliff hanger. I would like to work closely with you on the stylizing of the characters, I have read some about your inspiration and I felt it brought a lot of culture and style that drove that cradles the story wonderfully. Thank you for your time and let me know what you think!
Sincerely,
-Lane
